Skills-Based Hiring produces results
Companies that hire based on skills rather than credentials see measurable improvements across their workforce—from stronger performance to better retention. According to ADP, 90% of employers report fewer hiring mistakes when using a skills-based approach, and 94% say these hires outperform those selected based on degrees, certifications, or years of experience. Beyond performance, skills-based hiring also expands the talent pool, shortens time-to-fill, and helps employers identify candidates who can adapt and grow as business needs evolve. In a tight labor market, it’s not just a better hiring strategy—it’s a competitive advantage. (Forbes, 12/26/24)
“The rapid rise of technology and its transformational impact on how we work has caused companies to rethink what it means to be a qualified candidate,” said Nancy Spivey, VP of Talent Strategies at the NKY Chamber of Commerce. “We are seeing a shift toward skills-based hiring, which puts emphasis on what candidates can do and how their skills align with the position being filled.”
To help employers put this approach into practice, the NKY Chamber and NKY Works are offering a targeted training opportunity for small and mid-size companies. This two-session online workshop for human resource professionals covers the fundamentals of designing and implementing a skills-based hiring process. It’s provided by the Association of Chamber of Commerce Executives at a cost of $99.
