We Need the STARs to Align to Support Talent Attraction
Greater Cincinnati has a lot of STARs. They’re filling an increasingly important role in our region’s workforce and shaping our future. But they rarely seek recognition and often downplay their contributions.
Sound like no STAR you’ve ever met? Let us introduce you.
These STARs are Gen Z individuals who are Skilled Through Alternative Routes—born between 1997 and 2012, and pursuing education and careers outside of a four-year degree. Their paths may include vocational training, on-the-job experience, associate programs, or military service. Nationwide, there are about 70 million Gen Z STARs. Here in Greater Cincinnati, we need them—all of them and more. The majority of jobs in our region do not require a bachelor’s degree.
Does that surprise you? A new report from the Workforce Innovation Center (WIC)—a consulting service of the Cincinnati Chamber—offers a deeper look. Released on Wednesday, it highlights local labor market data and shares insights from focus groups with 19 STARs. Spoiler: they have unique perspectives on work, careers, and the future.
It’s a quick but important read, available here: Home - Workforce Innovation Center.
